Frequently Asked Questions

FAQs
General Care & Wellness
How often should I bring my pet in for a wellness exam?
We recommend annual wellness exams for most pets, while senior pets and those with ongoing health conditions may benefit from biannual visits. Regular check-ups help detect health issues early and keep your pet healthy.
What vaccinations does my pet need, and how often?
Core vaccinations, such as rabies and distemper, are essential for both dogs and cats. The frequency of boosters depends on your pet’s age, lifestyle, and risk factors. Our veterinarians will customize a vaccination schedule based on your pet’s needs.
Why does my pet need dental cleanings, and how often should they be done?
Dental cleanings help prevent gum disease, tooth loss, and infections that can affect the heart, liver, and kidneys. Some pets need cleanings every six months, while others may need them less frequently. We recommend scheduling an exam to assess your pet’s dental health.
How often do you recommend bloodwork, and why is it important?
We recommend annual bloodwork starting at one year of age to monitor your pet’s overall health. Routine testing helps detect potential issues early, increasing the chances of successful treatment.
Surgery & Medical Procedures
Is anesthesia safe for my pet?
Yes, we take every precaution to ensure your pet’s safety during anesthesia. We perform pre-anesthetic bloodwork and closely monitor vital signs throughout the procedure to minimize risks.
When should I have my pet spayed or neutered?
We typically recommend spaying or neutering dogs and cats between 4 and 6 months of age, but the ideal timing may vary based on breed and health factors. Our team can help determine the best time for your pet’s procedure.
How can I help my pet recover after surgery?
Your pet will need a quiet, comfortable space to rest. Limit activity, follow all post-operative care instructions, and administer medications as prescribed. If you notice swelling, redness, or signs of pain, contact us for guidance.
Parasite Prevention & Microchipping
How do I protect my pet from fleas, ticks, and heartworms?
We recommend year-round parasite prevention to keep your pet safe from fleas, ticks, and heartworms. Even indoor pets can be at risk, so talk to our team about the best preventive options for your pet’s lifestyle.
Does my pet really need heartworm prevention if they never go outside?
Yes! Heartworm disease is transmitted through mosquito bites, and mosquitoes can get inside homes. Year-round prevention is essential for all pets.
Why does my dog need a heartworm test before purchasing heartworm prevention?
Dogs could become ill if placed on heartworm prevention while already infected. Even pets on consistent prevention should be tested annually to ensure the medication is effective.
What are the benefits of microchipping my pet?
Microchipping is a simple, permanent way to help reunite lost pets with their owners. Unlike collars or tags, a microchip won’t fall off. The process is quick and virtually painless.
Boarding & Grooming
What vaccines are required for boarding or grooming?
Dogs: Rabies, distemper/parvo, canine influenza (H3N2, H3N8), and Bordetella (kennel cough) every 6 months, plus a fecal test within the past year.
Cats: Rabies, distemper, and a fecal test within the past year, plus a feline leukemia vaccine or test.
Why does my dog need a kennel cough vaccine even if they don’t board?
Kennel cough (Bordetella) is highly contagious and can spread in places where dogs interact, such as dog parks, grooming facilities, and pet stores. Vaccination helps prevent the spread of this illness.
What are your boarding facilities like?
Our facility accommodates up to 25 pets, ensuring personalized attention. Dogs are walked outside three times daily, and veterinarians are on-site to monitor pets’ health.
What grooming services do you offer?
We offer three levels of grooming:
- Traditional Bath: A basic cleaning service.
- Kennel Groom: Includes a nail trim, ear cleaning, and bath.
- Professional Groom: Performed by a professional stylist, including a haircut, deshedding, cologne, and bandana.
